Checklist for Choosing From Among International Schools in India

Till about a decade ago, international schools were something that was unheard of in most parts of India. Today, they are gradually becoming the norm in many places, especially in the major metro cities. It is no different in the case with Chennai. One can find many a good Chennai international school with its reputation having spread to various parts of the country. For that matter today you can find many a good international school in Tamilnadu, offering the best of facilities, at par with what is found around the globe.

However, you need to remember that not all international schools in India are created equal. There are a few factors that you will need to consider before you choose one. The first thing that you need to check for is the curriculum. If it is a truly “international” school, then it should adhere to an “international” curriculum. You need to check for the implementation of “IB” standard that is a must for international schools.

One of the best ways to find out about an international school in Tamilnadu, or for that matter in any part of India is to talk to the faculty. Remember, it is not enough if they know about a particular subject. In international schools the faculty is also required to have expertise in being able to make the subject interesting for the students. Talking to the faculty in a Chennai international school for example, will give you a good idea about the overall standard of the school.

While these days you can get information about any international school at the click of a button, it is always a better option to go and visit the premises. This way you will be able to take a look at the facilities from close quarters. You can take a look at the lab, the playground and the other recreational facilities on offer. Find out if the school offers the latest sports facilities in its premises. Most of the international schools do offer good sports facilities these days.

From swimming too roller skating to horse riding, you can find international schools offering encouragement to students to take up various kinds of sports in their endeavor to develop their overall personality. If it is a residential school, then you can take a look at the hostel facilities for the children too.
It is also a good idea to talk to the parents of students who are already studying in a Chennai international school. Remember, they are perhaps the best sources of honest opinion. They can give you detailed information about the school. Find out from them about how the school provides support to the parents. If there is a parent-teachers association, then you can also talk to its representative and find out in detail about these aspects.
